Why Office Design Matters for Your Business

Why Office Design Matters for Your Business

Design is more important than you may think. The design of the building you’re in changes everything from how you work, to how you feel, to how you move around the space. Heidan Construction is here today to talk about how office design matters for your business and its success.

Lighting Matters

One of the most important ways office design matters related to the lighting. Have you ever noticed how easy it is to feel sleepy in a room with dim, warm lighting? That’s because this subtle, warm lighting is similar to the hour before dusk. Our bodies equate it with the setting of the sun and the end of the day. It signals to us that it’s time to sleep.

However, bright, clear light does a great job waking us up. Have you ever sat outside when the sun rises? If you’ve ever gotten up at dawn to go to work, you might have noticed that the morning sunlight is bright and somewhat cold in color. That is the exact reason why bright lamps or overhead lights with cool color tones tend to wake us up. They aren’t very cozy, but they’re great at tricking our brains into staying awake.

The Importance of Color

Another thing that affects the behavior of employees and clients is color. Color is a surprisingly effective tool to alter people’s behavior. That doesn’t mean you can control people’s individual actions, but you can certainly influence their attitudes. That’s because color has a profound effect on the human brain. Our brains associate different colors with different needs and moods. If you take the effects of different colors into account when designing a workspace, you can optimize productivity.

Calming blues can help lower stress. Being stressed about work can actually make working harder. That’s why choosing calming blue tones for high-stress work environments can keep employees calmer, happier, and more productive.

On the other hand, bright oranges boost energy levels. The same can be said of red. However, these colors can actually raise stress. If this is used sparingly, that raise in stress can be beneficial. These colors give the illusion of pressure – just enough that the brain kicks things into high gear.

Middle-tone greens can be a happy medium. Soft, earth greens help keep the balance between calm and productive. This is a great color for clinics, medical offices, and even home offices.

The Impact of Space

When it comes to ways that office design matters, space is one of the most important. The more space you have, the more room you have for employees to work comfortably. You can even expand your team if it’s not so cramped. If your office space is cramped, consider getting an expansion. Morale and productivity always goes up after a remodel. Plus, with more room, post-remodel is a great time to hire.

In addition to staffing capabilities, an expansion will also give you a new pitch to draw in customers. Advertise about your new expanded business and draw interest from potential clients. After all, an expansion and remodel is a great sign that a business is flourishing and is, therefore, reliable.
